What kind of wiring should I use for my sound system?

I have an alpine type r 12 inch at 4 ohms connected to a alpine mrp-500 amp connected with 8 gauge wire, I am upgrading to an fi btl fully loaded 12 inch and an alpine m2000 amp, so could I keep the 8 gauge or just upgrade to 4 or do I need to upgrade
