Why do truck engines have such a low RPM limit?

I hopped into my friends truck and saw on the tachometer that the truck reaches 3500rpm's max. I drove a diesel driven commuter before that can reach 6000rpm's. I was just wondering how come truck engines run at such low rpm? What are the mechanics behind

Because of the cam.

Ever noticed why people swap to corvette cam when they swap a ls3 from a truck to a car?

They breath higher. For a truck the cam is made to breath low and deliver fast to pull........yep it sucks
