How much should an engine compression test cost at the mechanic's?

My car died today and I got it towed to a random mechanic. He said the engine was misfiring and they'd have to do this compression test to figure out if it is worth saving. They're charging $75 for the test-- fair or not? Seems pricey for diagnostics.

Cheap by far. To run a full compression test for that price is a great deal. Just to diagnose a miss fire can cost 3x that much.
